Neil Davidson born and raised in Zimbabwe. Lived in South Africa and Namibia and the UK. His artistic journey began at the age of 16 with a joint exhibition alongside his father, Bruce Davidson. This pivotal moment ignited his passion for art. Raised amidst the wilderness and farms of southern Africa, Neil’s love for the outdoors and wildlife became the cornerstone of his work.
In the early 1980s, Neil returned to Zimbabwe, immersing himself in the vibrant landscapes and abundant wildlife of the Hwange and Victoria Falls regions. His art flourished, drawing inspiration from the natural beauty around him. The safari market became his primary clientele, eventually leading him to guide tours.
In 1987, Neil and his father founded a safari company in Namibia’s Caprivi Strip, focusing on walking, canoeing, and conservation. Art remained a significant part of his life, with safari clients showing keen interest in his work. They also initiated an irrigation project at Linyandi, training locals in cash crop farming and irrigation techniques.
Neil took a brief hiatus to concentrate on his art, participating in several exhibitions while living on the Eastern Cape coast of South Africa. After a year, he returned to the Caprivi in Namibia. Living on an island in the Kwando River, Neil played a crucial role in establishing wildlife protected areas and anti-poaching efforts, working closely with local communities and the Paramount Chief Mamili to support conservation.
After leaving Namibia, Neil dedicated himself to full-time art, traveling and exhibiting across Namibia, Zimbabwe, and eventually Cape Town. Settling on the picturesque Cape Peninsula, he focused on galleries and commissions.
Now residing in Berkshire, England, with his lovely wife, Neil continues to travel annually to Africa , gathering ideas and inspiration for future pieces.
